Will and shall

Make predictions, offer help and make decisions as you speak.

What you will learn

  • Use will + base verb with every subject.
  • Form won’t negatives and will questions.
  • Use Shall I…? and Shall we…? for offers and suggestions.

Will bilan kelajak haqida fikr ayting, va’da bering yoki gapirayotgan paytda qaror qiling. Shall I…? yordam taklif qilishda, Shall we…? birga ish qilishni taklif etishda foydali.

Will is followed by the base verb, without to or s. Use it for predictions, promises, offers and decisions made as you speak. I’ll is I will; won’t is will not. Put will before the subject in questions. Shall I…? offers to do something or asks what to do; Shall we…? suggests an action together. These are useful common uses, not a claim that will is the only way to talk about the future.

Common Mistakes

Avoid: She will comes later.

Use: She will come later.

Will takes the base verb without s.

Avoid: I will to help.

Use: I will help.

Do not put to after will.

Avoid: Do you will be there?

Use: Will you be there?

Will makes the question; do is unnecessary.

Avoid: I willn’t be late.

Use: I won’t be late.

The contraction of will not is won’t.
