Questions: word order and question words

Ask for a person, place, time, reason or other information.

What you will learn

  • Choose a question word for the information needed.
  • Order questions with be and do/does.
  • Use how old, how many and how much.

Savolda nimani bilmoqchi ekaningizga qarab who, where, when kabi so‘roq so‘zni tanlang. Keyin be yoki do/does bilan to‘g‘ri so‘z tartibini tuzing.

In a question with be, put be before the subject: Where is the bus? With most other present simple verbs, use question word + do/does + subject + base verb: Where does she work? Choose the question word for the kind of answer you want.

Common Mistakes

Avoid: Where you live?

Use: Where do you live?

A present simple question needs do before you.

Avoid: What she does eat?

Use: What does she eat?

Put does before the subject she.

Avoid: Where does he works?

Use: Where does he work?

After does, use the base form work.

Avoid: Why do you are late?

Use: Why are you late?

With be, move are before you; do is not needed.
