Adverbs of frequency with the present simple

Say how often you do something, from always to never.

What you will learn

  • Understand common frequency words.
  • Place them with action verbs and be.
  • Ask how often and use once/twice.

Ishni qanchalik tez-tez bajarishingizni always, usually, often kabi so‘zlar bilan ayting. Ularning odatiy o‘rni asosiy fe’ldan oldin, be dan keyin.

Frequency adverbs describe how regularly something happens. In the usual middle position, put them before an action verb: I often cook. Put them after am/is/are: I am often tired. Always means every time; never means not at any time. Other words describe a general pattern, not an exact percentage.

Before an action verb

I usually have tea at breakfast.

After be

Never without not

My sister never drinks coffee.

Question

Do you sometimes work on Saturdays?

Exact frequency

How often do you call your aunt? Twice a week.

Xolangizga qanchalik tez-tez qo‘ng‘iroq qilasiz? Haftada ikki marta.

Common Mistakes

Avoid: She is late always.

Use: She is always late.

The usual place for always is after is and before late.

Avoid: He never don’t eats fish.

Use: He never eats fish.

Never already has a negative meaning; use the affirmative verb form.

Avoid: I drink often tea.

Use: I often drink tea.

Do not put often between the verb and its object tea.

Avoid: two time a week

Use: twice a week

Twice means two times.
