Notice: model speaking
Read aloud. Notice how the speakers use the phrases and respond to each other.
Speaker: Living near the centre has a clear advantage: you can reach shops and public transport on foot. For someone without a car, that can make daily life easier.
Speaker: On the other hand, busy streets can be noisy, especially in the evening. A person who works early mornings may find that difficult.
Speaker: Overall, I would choose a place close to the centre but away from the busiest road. For me, that would balance convenience and quiet, although the price would still matter.
Speaking strategy
After each advantage or disadvantage, explain who is affected and how. End with a priority, not simply ‘there are advantages and disadvantages’.
Pronunciation & fluency focus
Give both sides enough space. Use a pause before ‘On the other hand’ and a slightly slower final sentence to mark your conclusion.
