Read aloud. Notice how the speakers use the phrases and respond to each other.

Olim: Did you go away last month?

Emma: Yes, we spent two days in a small town near the mountains.

Olim: How did you get there?

Emma: By train. We visited a market and walked by the river. The best part was the quiet morning walk.

Olim: Would you go again?

Emma: Yes. I'd recommend it if you want a quiet weekend.

Speaking strategy

Choose a highlight instead of listing every place. A listener can follow ‘where, how, highlight, recommendation’ easily.

Pronunciation & fluency focus

In ‘We went there by TRAIN’, stress the new transport information. When the listener asks about an activity, move the stress to that activity.

Choose a useful response for each situation. Check when all questions are answered. These are phrase exercises, not a speaking assessment.
