Read aloud. Notice how the speakers use the phrases and respond to each other.

Buyer: How much is this hat?

Seller: It's forty thousand som.

Buyer: Do you have it in black?

Seller: Yes. Here you are.

Buyer: Thank you. I'll take it.

Speaking strategy

Check the price or size before saying ‘I'll take it.’ If you do not want the item, ‘No, thank you’ is enough; you do not need a long excuse.

Pronunciation & fluency focus

Make the important number clear. ‘Fifteen’ usually stresses TEEN; ‘fifty’ stresses FIF. Ask ‘Fifteen or fifty?’ if a price is unclear.

Choose a useful response for each situation. Check when all questions are answered. These are phrase exercises, not a speaking assessment.

4. The price sounded like either fifteen or fifty. What should you ask?
5. Which response clearly confirms you will buy the bag?
